Hongdian new feed material: Hongnite

Here is a salour.

I found the new feed comes with the Hongdian 1866 (launched in Jul, 2023) is capable of "low position ink refill", i.e. dipping the ink level just over the breathing hole in the nib will enable ink sucking.

That is a plus feature when the ink level runs low, no more need to dip the whole nib under ink, and we are in an era the nib is of the bigger the better, #8 is the new normal. The giant nib, like a crane standing in the lake on one leg, prevents the conventional refilling position getting close to ink level any more, despite in which there is plenty of 80% left in the bottle.

This feature can be found on my expensive Pelican M800, and ridiculously-low-ink-capacity Sailor 1911 21K.

So I get in touch with Hongdian and here is what I was told:

  • this new feed is designed/manufactured entirely in-house feed.
  • material of this feed is called "Hongnite", 100% RnD inhouse, and manufactured inhouse.
  • feeds of two sizes are currently available to nib size of  26mm and 35mm.
  • this feed will be available to 40mm nib upon demand. Current ebonite feed is used for 40mm No.8 nibs.
P.S. the three M nibs are called China Knot Flex, no fancy but useless grinding, just plain flex M. I am very pleased with their performance.
