Review- Majohn P139 Expedition

The first leak of this pen dated back to Nov, 2023. After some regular delays, it was launched yesterday. The high price due to: 1. ebonite feed - but it does not come with Low Ink Refill function 2. all metal piston components - why? MB Hemingway with all metal piston mechanism? so, both "upgrade specifications" do not actually deliver any "upgrade in function". Pro: quite a bit vintage pen look, homage to MB Hemingway, don't sleep old man don't sleep. Con: expensive, compared with other makers with similar specifications. no Low Ink Refill function. when posted, the cap will rest on piston knob and turn it with ease (pictures near the end).

According to my experience, Jinhao Steel M, never a failed one. But for Junl, you are taking your chances here. Junl has been very successful and renown in recent years for her innovation and original designs, but not for its nib tip quality consistency (same of modern Pelican BTW). If you are out of China, you out of the reach of Junl factory warranty. My personal experience of several purchases with Junl requires factory warranty for 2 times, one to send me a new feed to fix

Hero 856 Fountain Pen

I did not realise the existence of this pen until recent wandering around on dangerous internet. Then I did some research: this Hero version of 856 was introduced in 2016. The forefather of Hero 856 is Gold Star 28 (1950's). Gold Star was founded in Shanghai 1931, and then was nationalised (for example, the state offered you an unnegociatable 1 US dollar (equivant) to acquire 100% share of your pen company. Gold Star went bust and was acquired, together with its designs and drawings, by Hero Group (bankrupted and be required in 2003). Another similar case is Hero 565 and Gold Star 565.
